What is Phantom 4 RTK with SDK controller good for?
The DJI Phantom 4 RTK Quadcopter is based on the specifications of the incredibly popular Phantom 4 but with the addition of an RTK unit specifically designed to use Real Time Kinematic corrections in order to improve data accuracy and deliver centimeter-level accurate mapping.
With the benefit of a mechanic shutter, the Phantom 4 has always been a favorite for mapping. As it does not suffer from the distortion of a rolling shutter when taking images while in motion it is able to capture crisp and clear 20MP images ideal for your use in your photogrammetry projects.
The Phantom 4 camera has a 1” CMOS sensor, with the same specification as the Zenmuse X4S, another go-to camera used by professionals when undertaking mapping jobs.
When using the RTK features of the drone, a base station is required in order to provide corrections during the flight. The DJI D-RTK2 can provide these real-time differential corrections to help generate improved relative accuracy from the captured data.
Who is this drone for?
As it is able to capture data at increased accuracy with less reliance on Ground Control Points (GCPs) the Phantom 4 RTK can be extremely useful for land surveying, construction, and inspection. While Ground Control Points are still recommended, at least as Check Points are able to offer reference coordinates to confirm the accuracy of data, the data capture from an RTK-enabled drone greatly speeds up the process of precision mapping required by surveyors and construction.
